
Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship Winning Young Innovators Announced for 2016

The winners of the 2016 Moody's Information to Innovation Challenge – an open, online call for creative solutions to contemporary challenges, presented by The Moody's Foundation – were announced by the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), which ran the competition.
There were two categories for the 2016 Challenge: Health Helper Challenge and the Community Defender Challenge which asked small groups of young people (ages 14-19) to think about and create ways to promote healthier living and advance community values. Two prizes of $5,000 each were awarded in each category – four prizes total – to the winning teams. An additional award of $500 per winning entry – four in all – was given to the sponsoring school or social organization of the winning team.

Health Helper Challenge
FoodHero's Helper – Adjudicator and Public Voting Winner
FoodHero's Helper is a team of two students from ITE College East (Institute of Technical Education) in Singapore. FoodHero is a mobile application designed to help caregivers keep preschoolers occupied while providing nutrition information through an interactive game that includes a grocery purchase and delivery option.

ARIVE – Adjudicator Winner
ICDC Redemption Squad – Public Voting Winner
ARIVE is a team of two students from San Leandro High School in the San Francisco Bay Area. ARIVE is an app that helps people create a profile, share feedback, and connect with others to achieve visual results for improving their community.
ICDC Redemption Squad is a team of three first year students at UCLA. Their idea is CLUB CONNECT, an application for new students at the University of California, Los Angeles. Club Connect helps students filter and find school organizations.
Approximately 100 teams registered for the 2016 Challenge with student teams representing Great Britain, Ireland, Singapore and the United States. Two runner-up teams will share a $1,000 award, plus a prize of $250 for their school or youth serving organization.
The Challenge was designed and managed by the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) – an international non-profit which teaches young people to think like entrepreneurs and provides them with tools and attitudes to overcome adversity and address future personal, economic, community and global challenges.

All Female Teams of High School Business Students Win International World Series of Innovation!
TRIPLE CROWN!! Thanks to all of our school and community members who reposted and voted! Our ALL FEMALE TEAMS of students at our SLHS Academy for Business and Finance have demonstrated brilliance, rigor and collaboration in this International App Design/ Innovation competition, The World Series of Innovation. I am proud to announce that Team Tiffany, with Sophomores Janet Nguyen and Tiffany Hua Have won the Adjudicator's Choice (Judges) for their IFRC Innovation App Design, VolYOUTeer! https://innovation.nfte.com/projects/team-tiffany-s-project As well, Team Jewelly, with our seniors, Lara, Maggie and Diana with help from our Community and collaboration, took home a People's Choice award in the Coa Cola Bottled Water Challenge. https://innovation.nfte.com/projects/jewelly This same team of amazing young women also won, the Adjudicator's Choice in the Pitney Bowes Mentor Challenge, for their App Talent Trade https://innovation.nfte.com/projects/talent-trade These student teams have won $2500.00 to be split among their team members for each winning innovation. Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship World Series of Innovation It is with great pride that I announce that of the over 800 international entries in the International Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship World Series of Innovation competition, 11 of the 60 semifinalists came from the SL Academy for Business and Finance. We had the most submissions from any one program making it to the semi-finals. We have several double and triple crown team members, who were one more than one team, and had kids from all three grade levels in the academy representing in the semi-final winners circle. Next steps is them perfecting and uploading final commercials, and in late January, we find out the top three in each of the categories, as decided by new judges and then online People's Choice voting will begin! I am so proud of all the students who innovated and entered their submissions.
